Through the intimate lens of a married couple, David Roux dissects the privilege, hypocrisy and subtle manipulation of the modern French bourgeoisie in a manner reminiscent of Chabrol.
Synopsis
Meet Marianne: married to a wealthy industrialist, admired, and envied. A perfect wife and devoted mother. Everything begins to crack apart when, on the eve of her 40th birthday, her husband decides to move the family to his ancestral estate. Marianne feels that the old family mansion is becoming a gilded cage. The influential family turns out to be toxic and tightens its silent grip around her. Even her relationship with her children deteriorates. Bound by an intricate web of social expectations and family obligations, she becomes a willing accomplice to her own erasure. But when a shadow from her past unexpectedly resurfaces, the faint outline of another existence appears – a tantalizing, forbidden possibility. What price would she be willing to pay for the chance to truly live again?
